Start with the right comparison
Compare the same model, engine or battery version, transmission and body style. Check the trim and model generation too: a car registered in the same year may still be a different version. Irish-registered imports can have equipment that differs from an Irish-market model.
At Give Me The Reg, the registration lookup helps identify the car. You confirm the details and supply the information a lookup cannot reliably tell us, such as current mileage and condition. If the result does not match, correct it before proceeding.
Mileage and history need to be considered together
Use the current odometer reading and select kilometres or miles correctly. A unit mistake can materially change how a buyer interprets the mileage. Describe the service history as full, partial or unavailable and mention any supporting invoices.
Ownership history, previous use and repairs also matter. Low mileage does not cancel out an undisclosed fault, and a high-specification badge does not replace evidence of maintenance. Give us the information you have; you do not need to buy a report just to enquire.
Condition affects the work a buyer expects to do
Tell us about dents, paintwork, worn tyres, warning lights and mechanical symptoms. If you know the cause, say so; if you do not, describe what happens. That is more helpful than guessing a diagnosis.
A current NCT is useful information but does not describe every aspect of the car. An expired NCT or failed test is considered alongside the condition, age and likely preparation work. Photos can help clarify visible issues, but they remain optional for our first valuation.
Asking price, estimate and purchase offer
An asking price is what a seller advertises. An automated estimate is a guide based on the data available to that service. A purchase offer is what a particular buyer is prepared to pay, subject to its stated conditions. Those figures serve different purposes.
A dealer’s retail price may include preparation and after-sales commitments. Our valuation is for buying your car directly. We consider comparable vehicles and current Irish demand, then confirm the final price after inspection and history checks.
How to get a more dependable initial offer
Check the registration details, mileage units and selected history options before submitting. Describe known faults and explain any important equipment the lookup misses. If something changes after the offer, such as damage or substantial extra mileage, tell us before inspection.
