How to Prepare Your Car for a Buyer Inspection

A buyer needs to see the car clearly and understand its history. A basic tidy, the right records and an accurate description are a useful starting point.

Confirm the appointment and any known issues

Check the inspection time and location before travelling. We can view your car at your home, workplace or another convenient location anywhere in Dublin, by appointment. Viewings outside Dublin may be possible by agreement. You can also come to us in Skerries or Rathfarnham by appointment. If you come to us and we purchase your car, we can drop you to the airport or train station afterwards. Please arrange this with us in advance. If the NCT is expired, the car has failed a test or there are safety concerns, discuss these with us before making arrangements to bring it.

If the car’s condition or mileage has changed since your valuation, let us know. Describe warning lights or symptoms in advance. You do not need to diagnose an intermittent problem yourself, but it helps to explain when it happens.

Make the car easy to inspect

Remove rubbish and enough belongings to allow the seats, boot and storage areas to be checked. A basic wash helps make the bodywork visible. Ask about an offer before paying for expensive detailing, cosmetic repairs or replacement items purely for the sale.

Leave reasonable access around the car. Do not clear warning lights or hide damage for the appointment. A disclosed issue can be considered in the valuation; a surprise makes it harder to confirm the original offer.

  • Remove personal belongings and child seats if practical
  • Gather the keys and relevant service records
  • Point out known damage and faults
  • Have charging cables or accessories included in the sale ready
  • Keep access to any connected-car app until the sale is complete

Have the documents ready, without sending them unnecessarily

Bring the registration certificate, identification and available service or repair records. If the car belongs to a company or estate, confirm the authority and document requirements before the appointment. Finance settlement is also arranged in advance if it applies.

The initial valuation form does not require identification, finance agreement numbers or logbook uploads. Keep those records ready for the appropriate stage rather than placing them in public photographs or general comments.

Before you hand over the keys

Confirm the final purchase price and any finance payment split. Check payment through your own bank account before releasing the vehicle and keys. Give Me The Reg pays by AIB bank transfer, completes the dealer ownership transfer through Motortrans and emails the receipt and transfer confirmation.

Once the sale is complete, remove personal information and deal with any connected-car account transfer using the manufacturer’s instructions. Take your belongings and keep copies of the sale records. Collection can be arranged for an agreed time; it is not always immediate.
